Privacy Policy

This privacy policy governs your use of the Roadmap 2.0 Study software application (“Application”) on a mobile device that was created by The University of Michigan. The Application includes features to obtain informed consent from study participants, tasks such as surveys, the collection of passive data collected by your device, such as physical activity and sleep.

What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

User Provided Information – The Application obtains the information you provide when you download the Application. When you use the Application, you may provide information you enter into the positive activity exercises, such as the Gratitude journal, Random Acts of Kindness,Love Letter, Engaging with Beauty,Pleasant Activity Scheduling, Positive Piggy Bank, Savoring, and Signature Strengths, our surveys, such as your daily mood, as well as the Chat/Forum where you can post any information related to the Chat Rooms (e.g., Gratitude, Acts of Kindness, Observed Beauty, Strengths, Love Letter). For example, you may want to post Positive Thoughts, Supportive Comments, or Helpful Suggestions that you would like to share with other caregivers.

Automatically Collected Information - In addition, the Application may collect certain information automatically, such as steps data, sleep data, and anonymous information about the type of mobile device you use, your mobile operating system, and information about the way you use the Application.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

Yes. We will share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement and as consented by you in the study consent document. Providing your consent electronically gives the researchers your permission to obtain, use, and share information about you for this study, and is required in order for you to take part in the study.

The results of this study could be published in an article, but would not include any information that would let others know who you are.

To help us protect your privacy, we have obtained a Certificate of Confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health. With this Certificate, the researchers cannot be forced to disclose information that may identify you, even by a court subpoena, in any federal, state, or local civil, criminal, administrative, legislative, or other proceedings. The researchers will use the Certificate to resist any demands for information that would identify you, except as explained below.

The Certificate cannot be used to resist a demand for information from personnel of the United States Government that is used for auditing or evaluation of Federally funded projects or for information that must be disclosed in order to meet the requirements of the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Certificate does not prevent the investigators, or their institutions, from making disclosures, including to authorities to prevent harm to you or others, or for public health reasons.

You should understand that a Certificate of Confidentiality does not prevent you or a member of your family from voluntarily releasing information about yourself or your involvement in this research. If an insurer, employer, or other person obtains your written consent to receive research information, then the researchers may not use the Certificate to withhold that information.

Opt-out of all information collection by uninstalling the Application – You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data will be retained for purposes of this study.

Children

We do not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at ROADMAPstudy@med.umich.edu. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.

Security

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy here www.roadmap.study . You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.

Your Consent

By using the Services, you are consenting to our processing of User Provided and Automatically Collection information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. “Processing,” means using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place in the United States. If you reside outside the U.S. your information will be transferred to the U.S., and processed and stored there under U.S. privacy standards. By using the Application and providing information to us, you consent to such transfer to, and processing in, the US.
